As most of us dive into cleaning up homes and yards to
prepare for the warmer spring and summer months, Enterprises TV wants to take
some time to remind readers about spring cleaning their personal finances too.
Take time to review the household budget. Find out where most
of the money is going every month. Tweak it now if there are problems. The idea
is to not have to fidget with it every month.
Get rid of old paper statements and older financial account paperwork
no longer being used. Buy a sturdy paper shredder and start shredding old paper
account statements for all closed financial accounts. If there are statements for
older employment retirement accounts, call the issuer and ask what the status of
the account is. If still open, roll it into the current plan. There is no reason
to have several accounts still open.
Make a home inventory. Write down and then create a spreadsheet
with items you want to inventory in case of weather-related emergencies or break-ins.
Be sure to include the make, model and serial number of the item. Keep a printed
paper copy in a safe place with other important documents.
Review all insurance policies to be sure you have the best rates.
Shop around and get a better one if needed. The Enterprises TV show suggests taking
the time to do this as it can save readers a lot of money on a monthly basis which
can be set aside for something special.
